CHOOSING WHICH DATABASE PLATFORM TO USE

Baslogue^® is capable of connecting to a Microsoft SQL Server database or to a MySQL database. Baslogue is compatible with the following versions of these database platforms:

Microsoft SQL Server

SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition
SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition
SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (Free)
SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition
SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition

SQL Server 2008 Workgroup Edition

Note - you are solely responsible for purchasing, installing and maintaining whatever database platform you decide to use. Petrie Software Pty Ltd does not provide any installation and maintenance support for any of the above database platforms - this is your responsibility. Baslogue^® assumes that you have already installed and correctly configured your database software, including creating a new empty database, before installing the Baslogue^® Server.

The choice of which of the above database platforms to use will depend on many factors. Ultimately it is up to you to decide what is best given your own particular circumstances:

Existing platform - if you already use one of the above platforms for other software, it may make sense to use it for Baslogue^® as well
Available technical support - depending on what technical support you have available (in-house or out-sourced) may lead you to decide one over the other
Cost - MySQL is free for any database size. Microsoft SQL Server is free only for the Express Edition, which is limited to 1GB of RAM, 1 CPU and 4GB database size. You will need to pay for other versions of SQL Server. Migration of data between platforms can be done at a later stage if needed.
Operating System - Microsoft SQL Server is available on Windows only. MySQL is available on Windows, Linux and various Unix platforms.
